A few months ago there was a message about the re-certification process. A response to the original message stated that the certification committee had been experiencing delays. As such, I was not particularly concerned, even though my PWS certification dates back to 1995. However, I now have a growing concern. I just took a few minutes to review the Standing Rules for PWS certification, particularly Section 26. According to the rules, all previous PWS certifications from 1997 and earlier have expired as of 31 December 2004 unless they have been renewed. I never paid much attention to the rule change for certification renewal and never received any mailing to draw my attention to it. Is this rule in effect? If there are delays in the renewal process, there should a message on the PWS web site.

Ed:

Thanks for your inquiry as to the status of the PWS renewal program. The Board apologizes for the delay; however, the first 250 certified members have been notified of their need to file the forms for renewal (re-certification). Because of the large number of early PWS certifications, we cannot handle all the PWS members at once with the committee volunteers that we have. I appreciate your inspection of the by-laws and now that the program is beginning, I will propose modifying the Standing Rules appropriately at the June Board meeting.

Ed, thank you for pointing out this small detail in the new Standing Rule. A follow up question to yours is where do we find the Certification Renewal Form, also addressed in Section 26.

Mike, does the certification committee have a projected implementation plan for the new rule?

Tony:

We are working on getting the certification renewal application up on the web page. However, it will mimic the Standing Rules criteria.

Since we have started the first 250 renewals in 2005, just use that start date for the beginning date in the Standing Rules and we will try to follow that schedule.
