****o everyone,

Can anyone out there give me some advise on getting the required referrences for getting a WPIT certification? I work as an ecologist at an engineering firm that is not heavily involved in the ecological side. I'm new to the businees and am kind of doing this all on my own.

I plan on going to meetings and things like that to make some contacts, but I'm not really sure how to go about asking for a referrence. Should I bring resumes to show what projects I've worked on, etc?

Thank you for your time,

BJ

BJ,
There are 2 things you want to keep in mind to start. First, you are seeking certification as WPIT. As such, the level of scrutiny for both you and your references should not be as high as that for a PWS certification. In addition, there are many fields of expertise that you can look toward. Start by networking with other professionals in your geographic area; talk to your supervisors; your credentials should be considered an asset to your organization; consider college professors who may know you on a personal basis; and even previous or current clients. As a WPIT there should be more emphasis on your ethics and willingness to learn than on your experience. Experience will come later.

Good Luck!
