How has the Corps dealt with flood damage on mitigation sites? (PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND WITH A RAPANOS/SWANCC DISCUSSION).
For example - sites that were functioning well before a flood, then were damaged by washouts and/or sedimentation? Sediment retention is one of the functions we were mitigating for, however, that there is quite a bit of sand in places. Are areas where sand has been deposted and will most likely not be wetland (unless the next flood washes the sand away) considered "failed" mitigations? Does anyone have experience with a site near a river that flooded and delivered 2-3 feet of sand into part of the area during a major flood event? We have such a site in the midwest and are debating how to "fix it". It is in Year 5 of monitoring (if only the big floods would of held off for a year or two!) |

Judy,
I think it would depend on what was claimed in the design as the impacts of major flooding would be. If the mitigation area operated as designed, then it is still good. |
